The Seahawks traded up in the third round of the NFL Draft, sending a third round pick (No. 95 overall), a fourth-rounder (No. 112), a fifth-rounder (No. 167) and a sixth-rounder (No. 181) to the Redskins for the 69th pick overall, the fifth of Round Three. The Seahawks then picked Kansas State wide receiver Tyler Lockett.
The son of former NFL wide receiver Kevin Lockett, who played for the Chiefs, Redskins, Jaguars and Jets, Tyler attended K-State like his father did before him. Tyler Broke his father's Kansas State records for career receptions and yardage. Last season, he was a first-team All Big-12 selection and a second-team All-American as an all-purpose player. He is a Two-Time Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year. Lockett can contribute to the Seahawks very early in his pro career as both a pass-catcher and returner.
Lockett was a Biletnikoff Award semifinalist last year. In 2013, he was the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl as he caught three touchdown passes. NFL Media Draft analyst Mike Mayock praised the Seahawks for their willingness to move up and grab Lockett: "Absolutely love this kid. He can play inside and outside. He is a perfect player for Seattle; a playmaker on both offense and special teams."
With the 69th pick the Seahawks choose Tyler Lockett from Kansas State.
Here is the NFL.com skinny on Lockett: "Intelligent player on field who has clearly learned from his father. Nuanced route runner with ability to sell. Will vary route speed and is proficient with double moves. Has a knack for making explosive plays as a receiver and return man. Steps up his game when matched up against top competition across from him. Likes to block."
The Seahawks have now further added to their receiving corps with a proven standout veteran in Jimmy Graham and a very promising rookie target. The 'Hawks have also now have a new and explosive playmaking threat in their return game.
The Seahawks have six picks on the third day of the draft. They pick twice in the fourth round, at Nos. 130 and 134 overall. They have the 170th pick in the fifth round and the 209th pick in the sixth round. They also have the 214th pick in the sixth round and finish up with the 248th pick in the seventh round.
