Seahawks Wide Receiver Ricardo Lockette To Undergo Neck Surgery, Will Miss Remainder of 2015 Season

Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette sustained ligament damage in his neck that requires surgery to stabilize.

UPDATE (11/2, 5:25 p.m. PT): Ricardo Lockette undergoes successful neck surgery.

Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette will undergo surgery this afternoon at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas to stabilize ligament damage in his neck that he sustained during a collision in Sunday's 13-12 win over the Cowboys

Lockette has full motion and feeling in all extremities and the team has announced that his prognosis is good. An update on Lockette's status will be provided following surgery later this afternoon.

In his Monday morning interview with 710 ESPN Seattle, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the surgery would put an early end Lockette's 2015 season.

"I just talked to his pops and everybody's close to him and loving him up," Carroll said. "He's in good spirits and not too uncomfortable at this point."

Carroll said seeing Lockette lie motionless on the field struck a chord with his players.

"Our team is such an emotional team and we're so close to each other, particularly the guys that have been around for a long time, that that really hit heavy in everybody's heart and he was really so motionless and I think instinctively he knew not to move," Carroll said. "He was concussed, but once he came back to us he let us know that he was OK. He just wasn't going to move until they took care of him. Fortunately, they did a great job in taking care of him. They got him to the hospital and there's a great place there and great surgeons there … They're going to take great care of him and family is close and all that."

Lockette was hit by Cowboys safety Jeff Heath, who was flagged for a blind-side block on the play. Carroll said he thought the hit was "too high" when asked if Heath's play was legal, and the Seattle head coach said he believes the NFL will agree.

"He really got pounded and it affected him in a lot of ways, so he had to get through that in the first three or four minutes, which he did," Carroll said. "He's an amazing kid, too. We just love the guy. He's such a wonderful guy on our team. We've watched him grow up with us and he's just part of the fabric of all of us, so it just hit very heavy."
