With Jimmy Graham out for the season, the Seahawks made a move Tuesday to add depth at tight end, signing Chase Coffman, a 6-foot-6, 244-pound tight end who most recently played with Tennessee this season before being released in October. Center Drew Nowak was waived to make room on the 53-man roster.
Coffman, 29, was a third-round pick out of Missouri in the 2009 draft, and has spent time with Cincinnati, Atlanta and Tennessee. Coffman had four catches for 42 yards in one game with the Titans this season, and has 14 catches for 148 yards and one touchdown in his career.
Nowak, a former defensive lineman who converted to offense, won the starting center job out of camp and started the first five games before being replaced by Patrick Lewis. Nowak started two more games when Lewis was injured, but has been inactive for the past three games with Lewis starting and Lemuel Jeanpierre, who has the flexibility to play guard and center, serving as the backup.
The Seahawks also made practice squad moves, releasing defensive end Julius Warmsley and signing receiver Deshon Foxx, who spent training camp with the Seahawks, and defensive tackle Justin Hamilton, an undrafted rookie out of Louisiana-Lafayette who previous spent time on Seattle's practice squad this season.
