With Paul Richardson set to miss a third straight game, the Seahawks made a move to place the wide receiver on injured reserve ahead of Sunday's road matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, promoting running back DuJuan Harris from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster.
After starting the season on the team's physically unable to perform (PUP) list because of an ACL injury suffered in the 2014 playoffs, Richardson hurt his hamstring while hauling in a 40-yard catch in Seattle's Week 10 game against the Arizona Cardinals, his first action since starting the year on PUP. Earlier this week, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll had expressed optimism the second-year wideout would be able to make it back by this weekend, but Richardson didn't participate in practice all week and on Friday Carroll said the injury didn't respond as the team expected.
"His hamstring just isn't coming back and so we're just disappointed that he wasn't able to continue to get back," Carroll said. "It just lingered a little bit.
"In working him out and trying to get him back he could still feel it," he added. "So it just hasn't gone away yet like we had hoped."
Harris, who went undrafted out of Troy in 2011, was added to Seattle's practice squad last month. He has spent time with the Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars, Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, and Green Bay, racking up a career-high 157 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries in four games played for the Packers in 2012. He was active in 15 games for the Packers last season, carrying 16 times for 64 yards.
The 5-foot-7, 197-pound, 27-year-old running back joins a position group that includes nine-year veteran Fred Jackson and rookie Thomas Rawls, who's been starting for the injured Marshawn Lynch (abdomen).
