Seattle's all-time sack leader was announced as part of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2016 on Tuesday at the Waco Convention Center.
Former Seahawks defensive end Jacob Green was honored for his years spent at Texas A&M University, where he ended his Aggie career with what was then a school-high 37 sacks.
"Texas A&M is the greatest university...ever," Green said during his induction speech. "They're the reason why I'm here."
A first-round draft pick (No. 10 overall) by the Seahawks in 1980, Green recorded a franchise-record 116.0 sacks through 12 seasons in Seattle. When Green retired, his sack number ranked third all-time behind Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White. On Sept. 3, 1995, Green became the second Seahawks defensive player to be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor.
Green was part of an eight-person Texas Sports Hall of Fame class that also included former Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Larry Allen, former Chicago/St. Louis Cardinals offensive lineman Ken Gray, former University of Texas head football coach Fred Akers, former Texas basketball point guard T.J. Ford, Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world champion Trevor Brazile, former New York Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte, and former Negro League pitcher Joe Williams.
"I think the Texas Sports Hall of Fame is as good as it gets," said Green. "... It's a great fraternity."
A native of Pasadena, Texas who played his high school ball at Houston Kashmere, Green currently holds the position of vice president of major gifts and endowments for Texas A&M's 12th Man Foundation.
