Jimmy Graham, Thomas Rawls "Getting Really Close" To Return & More Injury Updates From Pete Carroll

Coach Pete Carroll provided an update on the status of tight end Jimmy Graham (knee) and running back Thomas Rawls (ankle) following the Seahawks' fifth practice of training camp.

Following the Seahawks fifth practice of training camp at Virginia Mason Athleic Center, Seattle coach Pete Carroll provided an update on the status of tight end Jimmy Graham (knee) and running back Thomas Rawls (ankle), players who opened camp on the Physically Unable to Perform List.

"Both those guys are pushing really hard," Carroll said of Graham and Rawls, who are each expected to be ready in time for the Seahawks' regular season opener on Sept. 11 against the Miami Dolphins. "We're about going day-to-day with those guys now. We're getting really close."

Elsewhere on the injury front, Carroll hit on a number of players who have suffered "little nicks" and were sitting out of Thursday's practice as a result.

"There's a couple soft tissue deals," Carroll said. "Doug [Baldwin] got stepped on the back of his leg, he'll be fine. Kam's [Kam Chancellor's] got a little groin thing that doesn't seem to be an issue.

"Right now we make the choice to really hold guys out. We don't want to push any of those kinds of aches and pains at all at this point."

Here's a few more injury updates from coach Carroll following Day 5 of training camp:

  • On defensive end Frank Clark: "He's got a little calf that's just tight. So he cramped up a little bit the first day at the end of practice and it just kind of stayed sore. So we're just watching him to make sure he's OK."
  • On tight end Luke Willson: "He turned his ankle a little bit yesterday. He came out and did the early part of practice just to test it and he was fine. So I think if not tomorrow, by the weekend he'll be fine."
  • On linebacker Brock Coyle: "He got a little oblique strain today blocking kicks or something like that. We've got to see what that means."
  • Running back Tre Madden "hurt his shoulder" and running back Zac Brooks was held out Thursday "with a sore hamstring."

Carroll wasn't positive at the conclusion of practice, but believes tight ends Ronnie Shields and Brandon Cottom suffered Achilles injuries. Both players were carted off the field Thursday.

On defensive end Montese Overton: "He had a calf strain I think is what it was. So we're getting some soft tissue stuff that's starting to pop up that obviously we're disappointed with."
