Seattle Seahawks Top Dallas Cowboys 27-17 in Third Preseason Game of 2016

The Seahawks used a strong second half to top the Cowboys, 27-17, in the third preseason game of 2016.

SEATTLE -- After a 10-10 tie at the break, the Seahawks used a strong start to the second half to top the Dallas Cowboys, 27-17, on Thursday night at CenturyLink Field in the third preseason game of 2016.

Quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Trevone Boykin each led touchdown drives in the third quarter, with Wilson scrambling to find receiver Tyler Lockett for a 9-yard score to cap a six-play, 70-yard drive highlighted by a 43-yard toss to receiver Tanner McEvoy, and Boykin using his legs to run for a 16-yard score capping a nine-play, 72-yard drive.

After being held scoreless in the previous two preseason games, Seattle's starting offense was able to put points on the board in four of its six drives, including two touchdowns, one from Wilson to Lockett and the other from Wilson to Paul Richardson, and two field goals from 27 and 53 yards out off the foot of kicker Steven Hauschka. The Seahawks' No. 1 offense played two series in the second half before giving way to Boykin and the backups, with Wilson finishing 16-of-21 for 192 yards and the two touchdowns, good for a 135.4 quarterback rating.

Running back Christine Michael received the most work on the ground, carrying seven times for 58 yards (8.3-yard average). In his first preseason action, rookie C.J. Prosise saw the most carries behind Michael, running four times for 23 yards.

The Seattle defense held Dallas to seven points in the second half, with the Cowboys' first 10 points coming off drives led by rookie quarterback Dak Prescott, who replaced Tony Romo in the first quarter after the starting signal caller went down with an apparent injury. Prescott helped open the scoring for Dallas, orchestrating a seven-play, 81-yard touchdown drive capped by a 17-yard touchdown toss to tight end Jason Witten that gave Dallas an early 7-0 lead. The Cowboys added a 40-yard field goal to tie the game at 10 just before both teams headed to the locker room at half.

The Seahawks have the next two days off from practice and will return to work on Sunday before their fourth and final preseason game in a matchup with the Oakland Raiders that's set for 7 p.m. PT on Thursday, Sept. 1 in the Bay Area. But before then, on Tuesday, Aug. 30, Seattle and each of the League's 31 other teams must trim its current 90-man roster down to 75 players.
