UPDATE (9/26/16):Russell Wilson Has Sprained MCL, But Doing "Exceedingly Well"
Russell Wilson suffered a knee injury in the third quarter of Seattle's Week 3 game at CenturyLink Field after San Francisco 49ers linebacker Eli Harold came down on the Seahawks quarterback following a sack. Harold was penalized for a horse-collar tackle on the play.
Wilson briefly exited the game, giving way to backup quarterback Trevone Boykin for one play. But Wilson returned to finish out the drive, which culminated with a 33-yard field goal from kicker Steven Hauschka to extend Seattle's lead to 27-3. The Seahawks handed the ball back to Boykin to lead the offense with roughly six minutes to play in the third quarter, and the rookie closed out Seattle's 37-18 win.
Postgame, Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said Wilson "sprained his knee a little bit," but intends to play next week. Carroll said Wilson could have returned to the game if needed.
"He's in good spirits, just like you would think," Carroll said. "He has no intention of thinking anything other than that he is playing.
"He was in a bad situation, he knows it, too. He lucked out, that it wasn't worse. He'll do an incredible job of rehabbing ... and probably the biggest issue is that he's still rehabbing his ankle, too.
"We're going to take care of him and work him through the week," Carroll said.
The Seahawks led by 24 points after the drive Wilson was injured on concluded. Carroll said the score and severity of his injury were the reasons they held him out after that point.
"It was easy to justify," Carroll said. "We had the game in hand."
Wilson was upbeat after the game and said he'll be "good to go" next weekend in New York.
"I'm just grateful that I got to get up," Wilson said. "I love my teammates, I love playing the game of football.
"It's exciting that we won, that's the huge thing, you always feel better when you win."
Additionally on the injury front, Carroll is optimistic tight end Nick Vannett (ankle) will practice this week, and said they'll try to work rookie Germain Ifedi (ankle) back into the starting lineup for Week 4. Running back C.J. Prosise (hand) has a good chance to play next week.
Boykin, meanwhilie, played the remainder of the contest and finished 7-of-9 for 65 yards plus his first career touchdown pass — a 16-yard strike to Doug Baldwin.
"He's put a lot of hard work in," Wilson said of Boykin. "It was great to see him out there and make the plays that he made. That was great, that was huge."
