Seahawks Injury Updates From Head Coach Pete Carroll

Injury updates from Pete Carroll following the Seahawks' 24-7 victory over the New York Giants.

The Seahawks traveled to New Jersey over the weekend and left MetLife Stadium with their fifth straight win in that building, and second straight road win this season to improve to 4-2.

"It was a good game for us, good trip to go out there and get a win a long ways from home," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. "Our guys handled it really well and played hard and tough and did what we needed to get done."

And not only did the Seahawks return from that trip with an impressive victory, they also came home relatively healthy. While a handful of players briefly left Sunday's 24-7 victory with injuries, Carroll said Justin Britt's and C.J. Prosise's ankle injuries are the only ones that potentially could be issues going forward. Receiver Tyler Lockett's short absence was due to having the wind knocked out of him, Carroll said, and defensive tackle Jarran Reed was checked out by trainers, but was OK and quickly returned action to enjoy one of his best games of his career.

"He's got a sore ankle today," Carroll said of Britt. "He's sore. We won't know about Justin until later in the week. Each day will tell us something, but I wouldn't think he'd have a chance to practice until Friday or something like that if he can, we'll see."

Carroll noted that Britt, who missed only five plays before returning to action, is dealing with a lateral sprain, not the more serious high-ankle varietal.

When Britt did briefly leave the game, Ethan Pocic replaced him at center and held up fine in limited action. That would have been impressive for a rookie in any situation, but was particularly notable because Pocic spent all week preparing at left guard, where he earned the start and split time with Mark Glowinski throughout the game.

"Ethan's a very special player, now," Carroll said of the second-round pick out of LSU. "For a rook to be able to come in here and be able to play all across the board and do all that he can do and hang in there, and make calls, and communicate well, and play good solid football, that's a lot to ask of him. And we're not slowing down on it, we're going to continue to hold him responsible for all that stuff, because he can do it. But that was why we were so excited about drafting him. We were hoping he would be that guy, and he has been that.

"He did fine (at center). That was really encouraging. He jumped right in there, (Russell Wilson) was coaching him up and hollering at him on the sidelines, getting him warmed up, and out they went, and he did fine."

As for that platoon at left guard, Carroll said Glowinski and Pocic "both did OK. I was really fired up for Ethan that he played two spots. He was forced to jump in and play center and did well, and jumped back at guard and did fine. He did a good job, and I'm excited for him. Glow played like he plays and hung in there and did fine. That's good for us. We got a little bit better because we got two guys playing there that hadn't played a lot."

With starting left guard Luke Joeckel still recovering from knee surgery, the Seahawks will continue to look at both Glowinski and Pocic as options at that spot, though Pocic could be needed at center this week as well depending on how Britt's ankle responds.

"I don't know what we're going to do yet, but they're battling and competing, and it's a good thing for us and good thing for them," Carroll said. "We'll see where that takes us."

As for Prosise, Carroll said they'll have to wait and see how his ankle responds to work this week before making a determination on his availability for the Seahawks' Week 8 game against Houston. Prosise missed the previous two games because of an ankle injury, then returned to action Sunday, only to tweak his ankle right off the bat.

"We have to wait and see," Carroll said. "Don't know. He had two plays, and on the pass protection, he loaded up and just tweaked it a little bit. Didn't sprain his ankle, didn't re-injure it, but tweaked and showed it wasn't stable as we had hoped. The work we had done in practice wasn't indicative of what he was needing in the game, obviously, because it didn't hold up. So we'll just go through the week and see what happens. It's one day at a time. I think he'll be able to practice again, I think he'll be able to get back out there. We'll have more insights now into what he can handle. Maybe he can play this week, maybe he can't. I don't know."
