The Seahawks made a roster move Tuesday, placing rookie defensive tackle on injured reserve, the result of a knee injury sustained in practice last week. Jefferson's injury will require surgery, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Monday.
To fill the open spot on the 53-man roster, the Seahawks signed defensive end Malliciah Goodman. Goodman, a fourth-round pick in the 2013 draft, has appeared in 34 games over the past three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, starting 11. The 6-foot-4, 276-pound Goodman had his best season in 2014, starting 10 games while recording 17 tackles and two forced fumbles.
Jefferson, a fifth-round pick out of Maryland, appeared in three games this season, recording one tackle. Additionally, running back Zac Brooks and defensive end Sterling Bailey were released from the practice squad and defensive tackle Justin Hamilton was signed to the practice squad.
