Pete Carroll Shares Injury Updates From Seahawks' 25-20 Loss To Saints

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll shared the latest injury updates following Seattle's 25-20 loss in New Orleans.

Following the Seattle Seahawks' 25-20 Week 8 loss to the New Orleans Saints inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, head coach Pete Carroll provided the latest injury updates about his team.

The Seahawks fell to 4-2-1 after a late-game drive fell short due to an incompletion from quarterback Russell Wilson to Jermaine Kearse as time expired. Wilson, who was listed on this past week's practice report with knee and pectoral injuries, finished the game 22 of 34 and passed for 253 yards.

Carroll said he was impressed with how Wilson looked physically on Sunday.

"I thought he looked very good, I thought he looked normal today," Carroll said of Wilson. "He didn't take off and make many yards running, but he looked good and was mobile.  He did another spectacular job to just get through this game again and you couldn't tell that he was hurt. I thought that was a really positive step, I think he looks OK now, too.

"From this point forward we have a chance to see him continue to progress to get back to normal."

Said Wilson when asked about how he held up on the field: "I felt great today, I finally felt like I was really moving a little bit there. I didn't really have too many huge opportunities to run and move, but I had some and I scrambled and made a couple of plays there."

Wilson ran three times on the ground for 11 yards against the Saints.

On his pectoral injury, one that flared in Seattle's Week 7 tie in Arizona, Wilson said: "I thought we did a really great job all week of really treating it and trying to be smart."

"It didn't affect anything," Wilson said when asked if the injury bothered him. "We were good out there."

On that final drive for the Seahawks, rookie center Joey Hunt subbed in on a few plays for starter Justin Britt.

"Britt's got a little stinger there, he had to come out," Carroll later revealed.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Seahawks were already without disrupter Michael Bennett due to a knee injury he sustained against the Falcons two weeks ago. Fellow defensive lineman Tony McDaniel joined Bennett on post-Saints injury report.

"He turned his ankle a little bit," Carroll said regarding McDaniel. "Not a serious sprain, but enough to keep him out of there."

On Bennett's knee injury, Carroll commented on a report that Bennett will undergo surgery.

"That is what we understand, yeah," Carroll said. "It should be a short return, but we've got to get him fixed up."

The Seahawks should have Bennett back ready and healthy for the final stretch of the regular season.

"We're thinking long-term and way down the road and this is the best thing," Carroll said. "He could've gone out here and gutted it out, but that's not the best thing to do, so we'll take care of him and get him back as soon as we can and welcome him back when he gets there."
