Doug Baldwin, who unexpectedly joined teammate Cassius Marsh at a *Magic: The Gathering* charity event last week, revealed more of his inner-nerd on Wednesday afternoon at Virginia Mason Athletic Center, where the Seahawks are readying for their Wild Card playoff game against the Detroit Lions.
To open his meeting with the media, Seattle's leading receiver discussed his fascination for Star Wars, offering a favorable review of the franchise's newest installment, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars' first standalone film that hit theaters last month.
"I thought it was really well done," Baldwin said. "It connected seamlessly. The storyline I thought was brilliant. As a Star Wars fanatic, as a fan, once you got to the end of it when you saw Darth Vader, when you saw Princess Leia, you felt it, and it brought back some good memories, some good childhood memories."
Baldwin said A New Hope was the first film he saw in the series, but The Empire Strikes Back has to be his favorite.
"I just got the first six on DVD," he said. "So eventually when I get time outside of football I'll be able to go back and watch them all."
Seahawks fans might recall a December 2015 matchup with the Cleveland Browns that saw Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett don a Darth Vader mask during the pregame introductions. Perhaps that was on Baldwin's mind when he was asked Wednesday which teammate of his is the closest to Darth Vader.
"Michael Bennett," Baldwin said before pausing. "No, Darth Vader? I don't think we have a Darth Vader — Richard Sherman, there you go."
So if Bennett or Sherman are Vader, who's Yoda?
"Yoda, that might be Pete [Carroll]," Baldwin said. "You guys like that one?"
But when asked to liken a Star Wars character to himself, Baldwin wouldn't entertain the thought.
"I don't claim anything," he said. "You guys have to come up with that one on your own."
