Kicker Steven Hauschka Agrees To Terms With Buffalo Bills

Longtime Seahawks kicker Steven Hauschka is headed to the Buffalo Bills, agreeing to terms on a contract on the first day of free agency.

Kicker Steven Hauschka, the Seahawks' kicker since 2011, is headed to Buffalo, having agreed to terms on a contract with the Bills as a free agent on the first day of the new league year.

In six seasons as Seattle's kicker, Hauschka set a franchise record with 175 field goals made, and also established a team record by scoring in 94 consecutive games and by making at least one field goal in 19 straight games. Hauschka made 33 of 37 field goal attempts last year and 29 of 35 extra points.

Knowing Hauschka could leave in free agency, the Seahawks signed former Vikings kicker Blair Walsh earlier this offseason. Hauschka signing in Buffalo does not, however, guarantee that Walsh will be Seattle's kicker next season. General manager John Schneider made it clear last week at the NFL Scouting Combine that the plan is to have competition at kicker in training camp this summer, though the Seahawks do like what they see in Walsh.

"I can't make a more vivid illustration of trying to improve the roster by bringing in competition of a high level," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said last week at the Combine. "What a great opportunity to get a talented guy. The guy has kicked as well as anyone in football—in college and in the pros—when he has had his chances. And he's seen the other side of it, too, he knows how to bounce back. He's a tremendous talent. So he adds in and we see what happens. I don't know what's going to happen with the rest of it."
