Seahawks Sign Linebacker Michael Wilhoite

The Seahawks continued to add to their linebacker depth Friday, signing former San Francisco 49er Michael Wilhoite.

Wilhoite, 30, is a five-year veteran with significant starting experience as an inside linebacker in San Francisco's 3-4 scheme. After beginning his professional career with the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks, Wilhoite signed with the 49ers late in 2011. He became a starter in 2014, starting all 16 games, then started 12 games in 2015 and six games last season.

While the Seahawks have a pair of Pro Bowlers starting at linebacker, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said after the season that he wants his team to add depth behind Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright. Brock Coyle, who has served as Wagner's backup at middle linebacker, signed with the 49ers as a free agent this offseason, and last year's starting strongside linebacker Mike Morgan is currently a free agent.

Already this offseason the Seahawks have signed former Ravens, Jets and Jaguars linebacker Arthur Brown, and the addition of Wilhoite shows they are still looking to improve at that position group.
