Good afternoon, 12s.
Here's a look at what's "out there" for today — Tuesday, June 27 — about your Seattle Seahawks:
The Bennett Foundation Partners With iamtheCODE
Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett and his wife, Pele, formally announced a partnership with the African global movement iamtheCODE Tuesday morning to get 100 marginalised girls in Africa into S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) programs.
"I am truly excited to help these girls in Africa to learn how to code and gain technical skills through iamtheCODE," Bennett said in a statement. "My wife Pele and I are very proud to support the building of solid tech training pipelines in communities in Africa."
Added Pele Bennett: "Michael and I value deeply that the education of girls in marginalised and deprived communities is being taken care of and highlighted by the iamtheCODE initiative."
The goal of the iamtheCODE movement is to "mobilize governments, investors, foundations, civil society and the private sector to invest in the future Digital leaders. iamtheCODE wants to ensure that by 2030, 1 million women and girls are enabled through technology, Digital Citizenship and literacy."
The partnership comes just two days after Bennett and his brother, Martellus, were honored with the Shine A Light Award for their involvement off the football field at the 2017 BET Awards.
Bennett earlier this offseason pledged to donate all of his 2017 endorsement money and half the proceeds from his jersey sales to help rebuild minority communities through S.T.E.A.M. programs and initiatives that directly impact women of color.
