Quotes and locker room sound from the Seahawks following their 30-24 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars during Week 14 at EverBank Field.
Head Coach Pete Carroll
(Opening…) "Well, that was a real battle tonight. I thought Jacksonville did great. They did what they needed to do, and played really well. We look at it, from our end of it, we see how many things that we gave that made it hard for us. When you turn it over three times, and you have a huge play in the kicking game, it's really hard to win. But our guys did not. They didn't stop. They kept battling and competed to give us a chance all the way until there was no more time left. So you have to give them a lot of credit. That's a nice football team, and they're worthy of the stats and the things that they've been able to run up at this time – the running game, and the defensive stuff that they can do. It's a really good football team. It's really important that we bounce back and get back on track and take this trip home tonight and see if we can rally. We've got a huge championship game coming up next week, and we'll see if we can get it done. It's really unfortunate how it ended, you know, with everyone getting scrapping and all that at the end, because we had a chance to get the ball back, and unfortunately, we couldn't work that out properly. We have to be more poised than that. It was a very difficult finish. We had a shot. Ok, hats off to the Jaguars; I love what our guys did, and how they battled in this game. I love the way they battled. I love the way they fought. There was no not believing that we couldn't get back, and there's enough power in that belief to give us a chance to have a great finish this season; I'm counting on it."
(On his view of what happened on the Jaguars' punt return that they returned to the one-yard-line...) "You know, I think there's an opportunity in there to just settle for the moment because you think the ball's going down, and 'I think he was doing this,' and telling his guys, and the "peter-peter" call, and the scatter, and there's just an instant there that maybe we let up for a second there thinking to let the ball roll, because that's all I know. Other than that, it was a great play by a great player."
(On the Jaguar's long touchdown after the Seahawks tied the game at 10…) "It's an uncharacteristic play. We allowed the guy to get across the field when we should have been on top of him. It should have been easy for us, but we didn't play it right."
(On Jaguars' pass rush and their four-man front…) "They did a nice job of protecting the ball and they came out quick, too. We weren't able to get near them, the way we wanted to. They did a good job."
(On what he saw out of Mike Davis…) "I thought he looked great. I thought he ran like crazy. This is the best rushing defense in the NFL. We had 100 yards at halftime. Mike was ripping, and he did a nice job with these guys and that means the guys up front did a nice job too. Russell's yardage was helpful, but I thought Mike looked really good. I'm on the sidelines, I don't know. Maybe I didn't see it, but that's what I thought."
Quarterback Russell Wilson
(On what he told the team…)"It's an unfortunate loss. We played a great football team today. The Jags looked really good. They have a lot of good players and did some good things, but the reality is we are fighting for first place next week. Just reminding guys the reality of the situation is we have to come back stronger and be better and everything else, but the great thing is we get to fight for first place. Our division is very, very tough. The Rams are a great football team so we have to go make it happen."
(On how he characterizes that belief in the fourth quarter…) "Well, I think it is a sense of urgency. I think there's a lot of things to it. Sense of urgency. I think there's a determination. I think there's a competitor's side. This is the reality of the situation. This is the truth. We're down. Let's find a way to keep coming back. It takes one play then the next play then the next play. The defense, once they see us score then they make a big stop, vice versa and everything else. Great things happen. I mean, Paul Richardson got open quick. Tyler Lockett gets open. Guys get open bang, bang, bang. Next thing you know, we're in the game. They're terrified for a second there. We just got to be a little more precise there at the end. We thought we had a chance, we thought we were going to make a couple of plays there. It's football. That's the great thing is that you get to battle every week against great teams and see what happens."
(On the reasoning for the deep balls…) "I think that we were hitting some things underneath. We kind of got backed up there like I said earlier. We needed something. We needed some type of explosive play. We had some explosive plays and they would get called back. We had a ball to Doug Baldwin where he was going down the field and got pass interference but that got called back. We had the screen play. That was a huge, huge play by Mike Davis, an awesome play. That got called back. We had to get some explosiveness in it and make some plays down the field. Like I said, you have to live a little bit with no fear. You have to take your chances every once in a while, you've got great receivers. I believe they are going to make the plays ten times out of ten. It didn't happen tonight but next time it will.
(On the final fourth down…) "It was definitely going to Paul Richardson there. I thought that they kind of got him there. The guy got beat of the line of scrimmage. I thought that was a great play by Paul. He beat the guy off the line of scrimmage. Honestly, I thought 22 made a good play in that he knew if he got beat it was a touchdown and so he just grabbed him right away. Held him and everything else. It is unfortunate that we didn't get that one. I'm not blaming the refs or anything like that. I think for us, there's plays in there that could have been better earlier. Games happen so fast. It's unfortunate. The great thing is we can be better. We played a great team today. It was a close game. Came here in a tough environment and we can be better if we play better, we win. It's really that simple."
Center Justin Britt
(On the offensive line's performance…) "I thought we looked pretty good all day. They have some guys that can really play on defense. Give credit to them, but we have to fix these penalties and take care of it."
(On running game…) "Mike Davis is hot right now. He's feeling it and reading stuff well. The five guys up front are doing the job. Everyone's involved. We kind of got away from that and had to -- the way the score was going. Our run game has been elevating lately and Mike's a big reason for it. We'll see what the film says and what we need to get back on. Right now, this game doesn't matter and we have to focus on winning the NFC West."
Wide Receiver Doug Baldwin
(On making plays in the second half…)"They played zone the whole game and we had to adjust to the zone. They didn't man up like we had hoped and we had to change our game plan. They didn't play man at all and we anticipated them playing a little man, but we had to adjust and then we started moving the ball."
(On Jacksonville's defensive game plan…) "(Defensive Coordinator) Todd Wash obviously knows the players we have offensively, the talent we have, and I tip my hat to him. His game plan was pretty stout and they didn't let anything get past them until we made some big plays late in the game."
(On fighting back in the fourth quarter…)"That's our DNA and that's how we play and we don't stop until there are zeroes are on the clock at the end of the fourth quarter. We are fighters and we are going to fight to the bitter end. They probably thought we were going to lay down and that's not what we do."

Linebacker Michael Wilhoite
(On the effort by the Jaguars…) "Credit to them. They have some good players. They get paid too. They go out there and work all week, come up with a scheme that they think works. Unfortunately for us, a couple of plays worked for them. At the end of the day, it's just one game. They did what they were supposed to do. They won at home. We have to go home and handle business."
(On lessons learned from the game…) "We compete from whistle to whistle for 60 minutes and that's what we did today, regardless of who was in there. People stepped up, competed and fought. We almost came away with that one and I think we will learn from it and grow from it, and will come away with it next time."
(On adjustments made by Seattle's defense after LBs Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright left game with injuries…)"I don't think we made any adjustments. At the end of the day, we have to go out there and play. We can't expect those guys to be healthy all year. This is football, and as you see, guys can go down at the drop of a hat. So, we all have to be prepared. You have prepare like you're a starter and you have to go out there and play like that. If you can't, you shouldn't be here."

Wide Receiver Tyler Lockett
(On late TD to pull Seahawks within six points at 30-24…) "You can't really count us out regardless of the how much we're down by. We're always going to continue to fight back and try to put ourselves in a good position to be able to try to win the game at the end. We had a lot of big catches toward the end with Paul (Richardson) and then the linemen were able to get the blocks so I could be able to score. We put ourselves in a good position, but just didn't have enough time left."
(Challenges of facing the Jacksonville defense…) "They're a great defense and had a great game plan. They did a great job of stopping us especially early on. We just can't put ourselves in a position to be able to not go out there and convert on third downs. That's the biggest thing. Their offense did a great job of extending drives and it's hard to put your defense out there to continue to try to save you when we have to continue to figure out how to get third downs. In the second half, we started to turn it around but it was a little too late."
(On respect for Jaguars' secondary…) "I know a lot of them so it was fun to be able to go out there and play against them. They did a great job."
Cornerback Shaquill Griffin
(On the team's fighting attitude…) "We build this whole thing around to fight until the end and we have faith and continue to fight, that's what this whole team is built around. We are going to bounce back and wins some games."
(On the play of Blake Bortles…)"We expected everything from him and Fournette and we knew they wanted to establish the run. Bortles has had a huge turnaround this season for this team and they deserve everything they have accomplished. He played a great game."
(On giving up 21 points in the third quarter…)"The third quarter was rough and there was some miscommunication and you hate for that to happen. We have to go back to the drawing board and you hate to see it go that way. This team never gave up and fought to the end."
