It's been a wild month for safety Coby Bryant, who has been making a huge impact for the Seahawks after getting his first start this season in Week 7 against the Falcons. Bryant showed again in the Seahawks' 16-6 win that he can make valuable plays for the team, coming up with his first career pick-six that he returned 69 yards. This comes a few weeks after getting his first career interception in Atlanta.
"I just give all credit to God," Bryant said after the game. "All that I've been through, I've always held my head down, and just keep working. I never doubted myself. My teammates believed in me. The coaches believed in me and just took full advantage of the opportunity."
Bryant finished the game with six tackles, one pass defensed and the pick six that changed the energy for the Seahawks in the third quarter.
"Coby (Bryant) getting the pick-six. That was awesome," quarterback Geno Smith said. "Really, really lit up the crowd."
Teammate Riq Woolen said plays like that feel like a win for everyone.
"It was amazing for real. Especially because it feels like one of us made a play. Whenever someone else makes a play, it feels like one of us made it. I feel like that's what makes us even close because we don't care who gets the glory, we just want to work, we want to win and we just want to see each other win."
"Yeah, if the ball is in the air near him I'm assuming he's coming down with it," head coach Mike Macdonald said. "That's a credit to him."
And after the game, Macdonald presented Bryant with one of the game balls.
As Bryant scored in the end zone, he celebrated with a nod to Seahawks Legend Marshawn Lynch – with Lynch's iconic leaping-into-the-end zone celebration.
Bryant said the celebration was a planned one.
"Actually, I talk to my dad and my brother before every game and I just sensed the energy from those two before the game, and I told them once I get a pick-six I was doing it, because we're playing the Cardinals and everything."
He knew that there was a possibility he could get fined but did it anyways because a play like that doesn't happen often.
"Man, please don't fine him, NFL," Smith said jokingly. "Let him keep his money. I thought that was great. I thought he did a great job jumping that route, fourth down. As I'm watching him run down the sideline I'm jumping out of my seat. I tried to run down there and meet him. Just how hard he's worked. He's the type of guy who loves football. He's always around the ball making plays. For him to make that play right there I know was a special moment for him."
After the play Bryant jumped up in the stands.
"I've never done that," Bryant said "I blacked out. I'm just like, I got to celebrate this. This doesn't happen often. Jumped in the crowd, they showed me some love. I'm like, alright, I'm tired. I got to get back out there on defense."
Bryant added, "I know they're going to fine me. So hopefully Marshawn, if you see this, you can show love to me."
And to make the moment even more memorable, Bryant was able to keep the pick-six ball to give to someone special.
"I definitely snagged the ball," he said. "It's actually my mom's birthday. What a coincidence, and I'm going to give it to her as one of her gifts."
Seahawks safety intercepted Cardinals QB Kyler Murray and returned it 69 yards for his first career touchdown. Check out every frame of the game-changing defensive touchdown by Coby Bryant.
