Good afternoon, 12s. Here's a look at what's out there today – Friday, June 17 – about your Seattle Seahawks.
The News Tribune highlights Seahawks associate head coach – defense, Sean Desai
In February, the Seattle Seahawks came to an agreement with former Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Sean Desai to become the team's associate head coach--defense. Desai would also serve as a defensive assistant, aiding defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt. Desai was part of the Bears organization dating back to 2013, working his way up from quality control coach to coordinator. But News Tribune writer Gregg Bell highlights Dr. Sean Desai in his latest work.
During Tuesday’s presser, Desai discussed his education background - receiving his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Political Science from Boston College in 2004; to his Master's in Higher and Post-Secondary Education from Columbia University in 2005; to a Doctorate in Educational Administration from Temple University in 2008. And how he took a detour from his education background to pursue a career in football. After getting his start at Temple as a defensive assistant and special teams coach, Desai moved on to the University of Miami, under former Head Coach Al Blades in 2011.
"I was a full-time student," said Desai "I didn't take the full-time load of most grad students with 3 classes because my work was football. So I took 5-6 classes a semester, as long as the schedule on the calendar fit, I took those classes and just grinded it out. I knew I didn't want to prolong it and be a 5-6 year doctoral student, I wanted to get it as efficiently as I could."
From there, Desai would coach running backs and coordinate special teams at Boston College in 2012, before joining the Bears in 2013.
Desai was asked at the presser how he uses his educational background in the game of football.
"It's education-based," said Desai "I think coaching is one of the highest forms of education and teaching you just get to do it on a different surface. With that education background, I think it's helped my perspective in how I approach players and how I approach the game and even look at the game."
