The Seahawks used their 10th and final pick of the 2023 NFL Draft to select Georgia running back Kenny McIntosh.
McIntosh, the second running back in this year's draft class along with UCLA's Zach Charbonnet, gives the Seahawks another versatile back with pass-catching ability. In addition to rushing for a team-high 829 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, McIntosh also caught 43 passes for 504 yards and two scores while starting 14 games for the back-to-back national champions.
Despite that productive career, McIntosh had to wait until the seventh round to get the call from the Seahawks, leading to an emotional conference call with the media roughly 20 minutes after he was selected.
"I've been waiting all day," a choked-up McIntosh said. "I've been waiting all day, I'm lit... I was going through it waiting for my name to be called. When they called me, I was on the phone with my agent talking about free agency. They called me in the middle of my call with my agent. I said, 'Hold on, I got a call.' They called me and told me they were going to take me at 237. And that's what they did."
McIntosh thought he's hear his name called sooner, but said that will only give him more motivation moving forward.
"I think I did everything I needed to do," he said. "I didn't think I was going to go this low. I know they dropped me down a lot, but this low? That's crazy. But that just gives me that chip on my shoulder. Just go out there and work harder."
McIntosh described himself as a "versatile" back who, "can do it all. Make you miss, run through you, catch the ball, line up. Whatever you want in a running back. Whatever you want in a running back, I got it. Outside zone, we can run it to the outside, we can run it up the gut, whatever you want to do. 'You tell me, offensive coordinator.' I'm used to this. At Georgia, I'm used to this. We're a pro-style offense. Whatever you want to do. Line me up outside, let's do it."
McIntosh comes from a football family, with his older brother, R.J., playing at Miami before spending five seasons in the NFL, and his older brother, Deon, playing at Notre Dame before transferring to Washington State.
