In time, Legion of Boom would become a term to describe an entire defense, one of the best in NFL history and one that helped lead the Seahawks to victory in Super Bowl XLVIII. But to start out, it was a fan-suggested nickname bestowed upon an up-and-coming secondary that helped lead that defense, one made up of safeties Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas, and cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner. While various players came at went at right cornerback and nickel corner, including Browner, Byron Maxwell, Jeremy Lane, DeShawn Shead and Walter Thurmond, the trio of Sherman, Thomas and Chancellor stayed together through the 2017 season—Thomas stuck around one more season—anchoring a defense that allowed the fewest points in the NFL for four straight seasons from 2012-2015, making the Seahawks the only team in the Super Bowl era to accomplish that feat. Between them, Sherman, Thomas and Chancellor earned 14 Pro-Bowl selections as Seahawks, six first-team All-Pro selections and four second-team nods.
