Making Connections: Players, Coaches And Other Ties Between The Seahawks & Steelers

With the NFL being so interconnected, it’s always easy to find connections between players, coaches, hometowns and more. Here are some interesting ties between Seattle and Pittsburgh.

Player And Coaching Connections

Cody White

The current Seahawks receiver got his start in the NFL with the Steelers. After finishing his career at Michigan State, in 2020, Cody White signed with Pittsburgh as an undrafted rookie. White spent most of his time on the Steelers' practice squad in 2020 and 2022. In 2021, he was signed to the active roster partway through the season and played in a total of 15 games. White then spent part of 2023 on Seattle's practice squad and then in 2024, after spending time on the practice squad, he was signed to the active roster. In four games, he had two catches for 44 yards and a blocked punt, the first blocked punt by a Seattle player since 2020. White is now part of the 53-man roster in 2025. Aside from playing for the Steelers, White's father, Sheldon is also the director of pro scouting for the Steelers, a position he's held since 2022.

DK Metcalf

This past offseason, DK Metcalf was traded to the Steelers. He was drafted by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and Metcalf would go on to etch his name into the Seahawks' record books. In 2020, he set a franchise record 1,303 receiving yards, surpassing Steve Largent (1,287) and earned his first of two Pro Bowl nods. He was the third player in NFL history to reach 50 receptions, 900 yards and five touchdowns in each of his first five seasons (A.J. Green, Randy Moss). Metcalf also has the most receiving yards (3,170) in a player's first three seasons in Seattle history. He is now honored as part of the Seahawks' 50th season anniversary Top 50 Players.

Frisman Jackson, WR coach

Frisman Jackson was hired shortly after head coach Mike Macdonald was hired in 2024. Jackson spent two seasons with the Steelers as their wide receivers coach (2022-23).

College Connections

Chris Stoll, LS, Seahawks

Attended Penn State and played in 48 games at long snapper where he was Named the winner of the Patrick Mannelly Award, given to the nation's top long snapper in 2022.

Carson Bruener, LB, Steelers

Attended the University of Washington and played five seasons (2020-24) at linebacker for the Huskies.

Troy Fautanu, OT, Steelers

Attended the University of Washington and played four seasons (2020-23) for the Huskies.

Daniel Ekuale, DT, Steelers

Attended Washington State University and appeared in 51 games (2013-17 ) at defensive tackle for the Cougars.

Teammates To Opponents

Seahawks wide receiver Cody White and Steelers tight end/full back Connor Heyward played together at Michigan State University from 2017-19.

Seahawks offensive lineman Mason Richman, Steelers defensive end Yahya Black, Steelers running back Kaleb Johnson and Steelers defensive tackle Logan Lee all played college ball together at Iowa in 2022-23.
