Good morning, 12s.
Here's a look at what's "out there" for today - Monday, Jan. 25 - about your Seattle Seahawks:
Seahawks Have "Most Of The Pieces To Contend"
With a Super Bowl 50 matchup now set between the NFC Champion Carolina Panthers and the AFC Champion Denver Broncos following Sunday's conference title games, ESPN NFL Nation writers reporting on the League's 30 other teams were tasked to answer one question: On a scale of 1-10, how close is the team you cover to being a Super Bowl contender?
On ESPN's 1-10 scale, a 1 represents "nowhere near close to being a contender" and a 10 represents "being on the brink of playing in the 2017 Super Bowl."
Sheil Kapadia, who covers the Seahawks, rates the club a 9, saying Seattle has "most of the pieces to contend." Kapadia writes:
*The core is intact. Quarterback Russell Wilson made great strides in 2015, leading the NFL in passer rating, and he is only 27 years old. The defense is young and has finished first in fewest points allowed for four straight years. There are issues to be ironed out -- most notably on the offensive line -- but the Seahawks should go into the 2016 season as one of a handful of Super Bowl favorites. *
The Seahawks were the only team rated a 9 on ESPN's 1-10 scale, while just two teams - the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots, teams that lost Sunday's conference title games - were rated 10s by their respective writers as clubs "on the cusp of a Super Bowl appearance."
