The NFL and USAA, the NFL's Official Military Appreciation Sponsor, have announced the 32 nominees for the seventh annual Salute to Service Awardpresented by USAA. The *Salute to Service Award *annually recognizes NFL players, coaches, personnel and alumni who demonstrate an exemplary commitment to honoring and supporting the military community, as nominated by NFL clubs.
Finalists for the Salute to Service Award presented by USAA will be announced in January, and the recipient will be recognized at NFL Honors, a two-hour primetime awards special to air nationally on Feb. 3, the night before Super Bowl LII, from 8-10 PM (ET and PT) on NBC.
Atlanta Falcons head coach DAN QUINN was last year's award recipient. USAA, a leading provider of insurance and other services to U.S. military members, veterans and their families, contributed $25,000 in his honor to the official aid societies representing all five military branches. Quinn will serve on the award panel and vote to select the 2017 Salute to Service Award recipient.
Coach Quinn, along with his coaching staff, created the Rookie Club Olympics, an annual event that brings together Falcons players and military members and challenges them to work together as a team. Through his nonprofit, Quinn's Corps, and his involvement with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), Quinn provided the opportunity for 63 families of fallen soldiers to attend a Falcons game and have a VIP experience at practice the day before. Coach Quinn also participated in an Atlanta Falcons USO Tour through the Pacific in the summer of 2016.
The Salute to Service Award is part of the NFL and USAA's year-round commitment to recognize and honor the military community. Each year, the NFL and its 32 teams come together to honor and support members of the military as part of the NFL's Salute to Service. The league's year-round military appreciation efforts culminate in November with NFL Salute to Service games and other special events honoring veterans, active duty service members and their families.
Since 2011, USAA has used its sponsorship to honor and appreciate military, veterans and their families by fostering a closer understanding between military and the NFL. Among numerous events this season, USAA hosted "NFL Boot Camps" with multiple teams where military members competed in drills similar to those used at the NFL Combine. Fans can join the NFL and USAA in honoring the military community by visiting NFL.com/Salute and see military appreciation highlights from across the league.

Pagano was also honored to have Admiral Winnefeld to speak to the Colts in a previous year prior to the start of the regular season. Additionally, Johnson helped facilitate fundraising initiatives tied to the organization's annual Chiefs Red Friday efforts to benefit Ft. Riley's Wounded Warriors Transition Battalion (WTB). DONNIE EDWARDS (Former Linebacker) The Los Angeles Chargers are proud to nominate retired linebacker and Southern California-native Donnie Edwards for the 2017 Salute to Service Award. While he was heavily involved with bettering the community and actively supporting the military during his playing days, Edwards has taken full advantage of his connections off the field to support the world around him, especially our military veterans, in his post-football life. It was Edwards' long-standing family ties to the military which moved him to lend his support to our troops overseas, including participating in seven tours with the USO proudly working to help boost morale for members of our military. But now Edwards' passion has taken a very special direction as he has turned his attention and time to assisting The Greatest Generation Foundation. In 2015, the Raiders launched the Raiders Foundation with a mission to support our military and families of fallen heroes. In recognition of Memorial Day and on behalf of the Foundation's mission, Condo and his teammates welcomed 50 people from TAPs (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) to the Raiders Alameda Facility for a tour and a meet and greet. Condo continued to show support for the military during the offseason. ARTHUR MOATS (Linebacker) It should come as no surprise that one of Arthur Moats' mentors is his father, Arthur Moats Jr., a former pastor and United States Marine. He is the man who taught him about values, character, discipline, giving back and much more. Moats joined some of his teammates at a visit to the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh, spending time with them, and truly listening to their stories, what they have been through, and giving them a true sense of how much their service is appreciated. He was among a group of Steelers' players who visited injured Navy SEAL, BRANDON MEYERS at La Jolla VA Hospital. The players came bearing gifts, but the best part of the visit for Meyers was just spending time talking to them about football. Moats was the first to raise his hand to help when the Steelers surprised Staff Sgt. MICHELLE SATTERFIELD of the United States Army with a new home through the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Moats went to the dedication celebration for the home, toured it with her, and spoke from the heart with his gratitude for her service to the country. |
