While talking about second-round pick D.K. Metcalf on Friday, Seahawks general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll told a funny story about Metcalf's interview with the team at the NFL Scouting Combine.
And lest you think there's an NFL coach having more fun at his job than Carroll, consider that this story ends with a 67-year-old Super Bowl-winning coach taking his shirt off during a job interview.
By the time the combine rolled around in late February, Metcalf had become something of an internet sensation due to pictures of his chiseled physique that had circulated on social media. So as a joke to lighten the mood, Southwest area scout Aaron Hineline suggested that Metcalf walk into the hotel room where the interview was taking place shirtless.
"Aaron got him to take his shirt off before he went into interview at the Crowne Plaza, it was pretty funny," Schneider said.
"I was surprised that he came into our interview with his shirt off," Carroll said. "I'm serious, he came in with his shirt off, and it kind of pissed me off, so I took my shirt off too. Not for long though."
"Too long," Schneider quipped.
The media all had a laugh at this story, presuming Carroll was joking about taking his shirt off.
He wasn't joking.
