Raiders Name Pete Carroll Head Coach

The Las Vegas Raiders made former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll their new head coach on Friday.

Pete Carroll Congrats 16x9

Pete Carroll is back in the NFL.

Carroll, the winningest coach in Seahawks history, was named the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday just over a year after the Seahawks made a change at head coach following the 2023 season.

Carroll joins the Raiders after a successful 14-year run in Seattle that saw him post 11 winning seasons, earn 10 playoff berths and win five NFC West titles. Under the leadership of Carroll and John Schneider, the Seahawks went to consecutive Super Bowls following the 2013 and 2014 seasons, bringing home the first Lombardi Trophy in franchise history with a 43-8 win over the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.

In addition to a brilliant football mind and decades of experience, Carroll, perhaps the world's youngest 73-year-old, is also an elite leader and culture builder, which should pay dividends for a Raiders franchise that has reached the postseason just twice in the past 22 seasons, and that has posted a losing record in six of its past 10 seasons, including a 4-13 mark last year.

That Carroll is back in the NFL should hardly come as a surprise. Despite being the league's oldest coach in his last few seasons in Seattle, a title he'll reclaim in 2025, Carroll never showed any signs of slowing down. And as he said in his farewell press conference last year, "I'm freaking jacked. I'm fired up. I'm not tired. I'm not worn down."

Congrats, Pete, best of luck in Las Vegas.

Named head coach on January 11, 2010, Pete Carroll became the eighth head coach in Seahawks history after one of the most successful runs in USC history in the college ranks. Take a look at photos from throughout his time in Seattle.
