The Seahawks added to their outside linebacker depth on Monday, acquiring outside linebacker Trevis Gipson in a trade that will send draft choice compensation to the Jaguars. The trade is pending physical.
Cornerback Willie Roberts was waived to make room on the 90-man roster.
Gipson, who is 6-foot-3, 259 pounds, was a fifth-round pick out of Tulsa in the 2020 draft, spending his first three seasons with the Bears, where he appeared in 40 games, starting 19. During the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Gipson appeared in 33 games, starting 19 while recording 10.0 sacks, 70 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, five passes defensed and 18 quarterback hits. Gipson spent last season with the Titans, appearing in eight games with 1.0 sack, then signed with the Jaguars as a free agent in March.
The Seahawks add Gipson after trading outside linebacker Darrell Taylor to the Bears last week. Starting outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu exited Saturday's preseason game with a knee injury, though following the game, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said they did not yet know the severity of the injury.
