Last month, a story that Seahawks fan Duke Sheow shared with the NFL was selected as one of five finalists for the League's Together We Make Football contest, which invited fans to reveal why they love the game.
Sheow told how a pair of original Seahawks season-ticket holders sponsored his family's move to the United States in the aftermath of the Vietnam war. The Hancock's - the sponsor family - and the Sheow's bonded over Seahawks gamedays, and in Sheow's words, football became "a language that transcends a lot of barriers."
Last week, on Seahawks 'Blue Friday,' TODAY's Willie Geist reintroduced Sheow, the Hancock's, and each of the contest's four other finalists during their live show in New York City. The group gathered on site to learn which story had won, with the winning contestant earning a trip to Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara, Calif.
But Geist unexpectedly called "an audible at the line of scrimmage," and instead of choosing just one winner to send to February's big game, all five stories were honored.
"I refuse to make a choice," Geist said. "You are all going to the Super Bowl!"
The TODAY show segment of the fans' surprise is embedded for you in the video below, and at 11:30 a.m. PT on Saturday, Jan. 16 - one day before Seattle's divisional round playoff game against the Carolina Panthers, NBC will air a 30-minute special on all of the Together We Make Football winners.
