Seahawks Legend Golden Tate Named Monday Night Football 12 Flag Raiser

Seahawks Legend and Super Bowl XLVIII Champion Golden Tate Named Monday Night Football 12 Flag Raiser.

Hawks 9ers NFC Championship -350

Seahawks Legend and Super Bowl XLVIII Champion Golden Tate will raise the 12 Flag for Monday's contest against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Seahawks selected Notre Dame wideout Golden Tate with the 60th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Now, the 11-year pro will raise the 12 Flag ahead of Monday Night's matchup against another of his former teams, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Growing up in Hendersonville, Tennessee, Tate blossomed as a multi-sport athlete at Pope John Paul II High in track & field, baseball and football. In the 2007 Amateur Draft, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected Tate during his senior year of high school. Tate opted to take his talents to Notre Dame instead, continuing his football and baseball careers. Tate played two seasons for the Fighting Irish at center fielder, batting .329 as a sophomore with 45 runs scored. On the football field, Tate rose from playing two games as a freshman, to a unanimous All-American and the 2009 Biletnikoff Award winner as a junior.

After catching three touchdowns across his first-two seasons, Tate blossomed into a key factor for Seattle's offense in 2012, catching 45 passes for 688 yards and seven touchdowns. Tate's best statistical season would be his last with the franchise, but it would be a memorable one. That season, Tate caught 64 passes for 898 yards and five touchdowns as he helped Seattle win their first championship with a 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.

In 2014, Tate joined the Detroit Lions, where he would record all three of his 1,000-yard seasons, before being traded mid-season to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2008. Tate played the final two seasons of his career with the New York Giants (2019-2020).

Now, he gets to raise the 12 Flag before a crucial contest for Seattle, as they look to beat his former NFC East team to strengthen their playoff chances.
