The Seahawks' used their lone selection in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft on Joey Hunt, a 6-foot-2, 299-pound center out of TCU.
"It was surreal," Hunt said of getting the call from Seattle on Saturday. "It's something I've dreamed about since I was a kid. It was just an amazing feeling. I'm here with just my family, and they were super pumped. It's something we've been dreaming about."
Hunt, who made 36 career starts in 43 games played for the Horned Frogs, was a first-team All-Big-12 selection in 2015, when he helped lead a TCU offense that produced both a 1,000-yard rusher and 1,000-yard receiver. He started 10 games last season before missing the team's final three matchups with a lateral meniscus injury that he's since had repaired.
"I'm a hard-working guy, I want to be competitive," Hunt said of his own game. "A guy who really studies the game and tries to learn and contributes to my team as much as possible."
Hunt, a two-time team captain at TCU, has also played left and right guard in his career.
"I actually went in as D-tackle, and they moved me to center my freshman year," he said. "I played center like one game, but usually I would play guard my freshman year, but they always primed me to play center. Since then I've played center every game except one since my sophomore year."
Hunt said Seattle sees him as a center and he should figure into the team's depth and competition at the spot. The Seahawks return Patrick Lewis and Drew Nowak at center in 2016, each of whom started games for Seattle last season. Will Pericak and Kristjan Sokoli are also listed at center on the Seahawks roster.
