Seahawks Running Back C.J. Spiller Is Active For Sunday's Game at New York

C.J. Spiller will make his Seahawks debut Sunday, while starting defensive tackle Jarran Reed is out with a hip injury.

Running back C.J. Spiller will make his Seahawks debut only four days after signing with Seattle. The former Bills and Saints running back is expected to be used in a third-down role with C.J. Prosise still sidelined by a wrist injury, running backs coach Sherman Smith said.

"He's experienced, he has done a lot of good stuff, been in a lot of good systems, and there's a variety of things we've been able to watch him do on film," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said of Spiller on Friday. "He's a versatile player, terrific speed. We'll see where he fits in."

Notable among the inactives for Seattle is starting defensive tackle Jarran Reed, who has a hip injury. Tony McDaniel is expected to start in Reed's place. Tight end Nick Vannett is also out for a fourth straight game because of an ankle injury. Vannett did return to practice this week and Carroll said the rookie tight end should be ready to contribute to the offense soon.

Rookie Germain Ifedi is active for the first time and is expected to start at right guard after missing the past three games with an ankle injury.

Tight end Jimmy Graham and linebacker Morgan are both active after being listed as questionable on Friday's injury report.
