Following months of practices and preparation, the Seattle Seahawks officially set their 53-man roster Saturday two days removed from the conclusion of the preseason.
To reach the 53-man roster limit, the Seahawks formally waived 29 players along with three being waived/injured (waived/injured players revert to a team's Injured Reserve if they go unclaimed on waivers) and four being placed on Injured Reserve. The Seahawks also altered their roster by making two trades, sending wide receiver Marcus Johnson to Indianapolis for tight end Darrell Daniels and acquiring former Washington State University safety Shalom Luani from the Oakland Raiders for a 2019 seventh-round pick.
Notably, the Seahawks waived 2017 third-round pick Amara Darboh and rookie quarterback Alex McGough, a 2018 seventh-round pick. The Seahawks will have five receivers on the 53: Doug Baldwin, Brandon Marshall, Tyler Lockett, David Moore and Jaron Brown. McGough being waived along with Austin Davis being placed on Injured Reserve leaves recently-acquired Brett Hundley as the backup to Russell Wilson. Darboh and McGough are both strong candidates to make the team's practice squad that will be announced next week. Pass-rusher Dion Jordan also moved from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to the active roster.
