The Seahawks added to their defensive line depth Thursday, bringing back defensive end Christian French, who first signed with the team as an undrafted rookie in 2016. Linebacker Ronald Powell was waived/injured to make room on the 90-man roster.
French, who played at Oregon, signed with Seattle following the 2016 draft, but sustained an injury in rookie minicamp and was waived/injured later that spring. When discussing last year's undrafted free agent class, Seahawks general manager John Schneider said that French would get a look at strongside linebacker in addition to defensive end, so he could factor into the mix there as well. French also took part in this year's Seahawks rookie minicamp as a tryout player.
Powell, a 2014 fifth-round pick out of Florida, spent time with New Orleans and Chicago before signing with Seattle in December. If Powell clears waivers, he will be placed on Seattle's injured reserve list.
