On a weekend when Americans and Canadians are celebrating their countries' independence, a pair of Seahawks were also celebrating their European roots—and engaging in some friendly smack talk—while watching the 2016 UEFA European Championship quarterfinal between Germany and Italy.
A day after Canada, tight end Luke Willson's home and native land, celebrated Canada Day, Willson was showing allegiance to his Italian heritage, letting it be known that he expected the Azzurri to dominate.
Receiver Jermaine Kearse, whose mother was born and raised in Germany, kindly disagreed.
At that point, Willson decided to remind Kearse that his sports prognostication skills were a bit lacking during the NBA finals.
Kearse then told Willson he was delusional and predicted a 3-1 German victory,
He also made sure Willson was aware of Germany taking a second-half lead that turned out to be short-lived.
Alas, neither team dominated, with the game going to a penalty-kick shootout after being tied 1-1 after 120 minutes. In the end, Kearse got the last laugh, with Germany winning 6-5 in the shootout.
