For the next few weeks, on Wednesdays and Fridays, while voting is open, we will take a look at each position group of eligible players and today we're starting with quarterbacks.

One of the smaller position groups of eligible players, the Seahawks have a list of 10 quarterbacks that are eligible for the Top 50. That list includes three Seahawks Ring of Honor members, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, an NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year, five Pro Bowlers and two quarterbacks that have led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl appearance.

  • Trent Dilfer
  • Matt Hasselbeck
  • Brock Huard
  • Jon Kitna
  • Dave Krieg
  • Rick Mirer
  • Warren Moon
  • Geno Smith
  • Russell Wilson
  • Jim Zorn

Seahawks First And Earliest Quarterbacks:

Jim Zorn 1976-1984 and Dave Krieg 1980-1991 were the Seahawks earliest franchise quarterbacks, with Zorn being the Seahawks' first-ever starting quarterback. In Zorn's rookie season, he led the NFL in pass attempts with 439, setting a record 2,571 passing yards for an expansion team. Zorn's debut earned him Seahawks Team MVP, NFC Offensive Rookie of the Year, and a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team. Krieg had a 19-year NFL career and spent the first 12 of those with Seattle. When he finished his Seahawks career, he was the first Seattle quarterback with a playoff victory and led the Seahawks to their only conference championship game in 1983.

90's Quarterbacks:

From the eligible players, Rick Mirer, Jon Kitna, Warren Moon and Brock Huard all donned a Seahawks uniform at some point in the 90's (Krieg did as well in 1990 and 1991, but we already mentioned him above). Mirer and Huard were both draft picks by the Seahawks, while Kitna was signed as an undrafted free agent and Moon was picked up in free agency.

2000's And On:

Trent Dilfer, Matt Hasselbeck and Russell Wilson are names you probably recognize if you've watched any Seahawks football within the last 23 years. Dilfer spent much of his time in Seattle as Matt Hasselbeck's backup but went 8-4 as a starter and passed for 2,560 yards, 13 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Hasselbeck's name can be found throughout Seattle's record books with the impact he made on the franchise. He finished his time in Seattle as the franchise's all-time leader in attempts (4,250), completions (2,559), yards (29,434), and career wins (74), and second in touchdowns (174).

Seahawks Quarterback Today:

Geno Smith started his Seattle career as a backup to Russell Wilson but would start three games in 2021 due to an injury to Wilson in the middle of the season. Smith won the starting quarterback job prior to Week 1 of the 2022 season and never looked back. Smith went on to earn his first career Pro-Bowl appearance in a season that resulted in a playoff bid for Seattle and he was awarded the AP Comeback Player of the Year Award. Now, in 2024, Smith currently leads the league in passing yards (1,778), completions (173) and attempts (251) through six games.

The Seahawks franchise will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025 so in honor of its 50th season, we are recognizing some of the greatest players to play in Seattle. The 12s have the opportunity to vote for the top 50 players in franchise history, with 163 players being eligible. Take a look at all 163 players that met the criteria for the vote and cast your ballots here.
