The Seahawks will be without running backs Thomas Rawls and C.J. Prosise Sunday, with both being declared inactive for Seattle's Week 3 game against the 49ers due to injuries. Rawls, who left last week's game with a shin injury, was listed as doubtful after not practicing during the week, while Prosise had been able to practice, but with a cracked bone in his hand.
Rawls' absence should mean a big work load for Christine Michael, and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is confident that Michael will be ready for more carries.
"He's averaging 5 yards a carry for a reason," Carroll said Friday. "He had a really good offseason, he had a terrific camp. All indications are that he's really ready for a bigger load. He has 20-something carries so far, and he's ready to carry the ball 20-something times in a game. I think he'd be fine with that."
Rookie Alex Collins will also likely play more than last week when he had two carries for no yards. To add depth at running back, the Seahawks signed Terrence Magee off of their practice squad Saturday.
Guard Germain Ifedi (ankle) and tight end Nick Vannett (ankle) are out for a third straight game, though both were able to return to practice Friday on a limited basis.
Defensive tackle Garrison Smith is active for the first time this season after being claimed off of waivers from San Francisco earlier this month. Smith could factor into the defensive line rotation against his former team because rookie Quinton Jefferson is inactive. Also active for the first time is linebacker Dewey McDonald, who came to Seattle in a trade before the start of the season.
