The Seahawks will showcase a much bolder and brighter look when they play host to the Los Angeles Rams later this year, with the club announcing Tuesday that it will take part in NFL Color Rush 2016, unveiling an Action Green uniform combo that it will wear on Thursday Night Football in mid-December.
Seattle's new digs feature the team's energizing accent color from head-to-toe, combining Action Green pants and jerseys with the Seahawks' traditional blue helmet.
"I love it," strong safety Kam Chancellor said with a smile. "I think that green looks good on a dark-skinned brother like me. I like it, man. Overall, it's a real bright color, but I like it. I like how they got a little bit of blue on it just to make it pop out a little bit, and the helmet with it makes it look good.
"It's going to be a different look, but I like it."
Last year, just eight teams took part in the NFL's initial Color Rush launch, but this season's campaign extends to all 32 teams, pulling inspiration from each club's current and historic colors and designs. The Seahawks' new look, though, is certainly one of the most unique.
"It shows that we're different," said wide receiver Doug Baldwin. "We're a different team. We're a different animal. When you put on this jersey, when you put on these colors, you represent the Seattle Seahawks, and that means something. It's a little bit different than what anybody else can understand, but when you put on these colors you understand it when you're out there on the field."
Seattle will wear its Action Green alternate uniform against the Rams on Dec. 15 at CenturyLink Field, when Los Angeles will be decked out in an all-white look. But 12s hoping to catch an early glimpse of the gameday getup are in luck.
Fan versions of the jerseys will go on sale Tuesday at all four Pro Shop locations, plus online right here. The CenturyLink Field, Renton Landing, and Downtown Pro Shop locations will open at 8 a.m. Tuesday, marking the first place Seahawks fans can pick them up.
"They always say if you look good, you play good, you feel good," said Chancellor. "So I'm ready to look good and feel good. I'm ready to wear them."`
One hundred percent of the NFL's proceeds from the sale of Color Rush jerseys will go directly to the NFL Foundation to fund health, safety, and wellness programs for youth around the country, funding grants to support athletes, youth football, and each of the NFL's 32 communities. The initial $500,000 raised from the Color Rush initiative will go toward replacing youth and high school football equipment and playing fields lost in last month's Louisiana floods.
