Good morning, 12s, and happy St. Patrick's Day.

Here's a look at what's "out there" for today - Tuesday, March 17 - about your Seattle Seahawks:

Borland Retires

The biggest news from yesterday came from one of the Seahawks' NFC West rivals.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Chris BorlandĀ revealed to ESPN'sĀ *[Outside the Lines](http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story//id/12496480/san-francisco-49ers-linebacker-chris-borland-retires-head-injury-concerns "http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story//id/12496480/san-francisco-49ers-linebacker-chris-borland-retires-head-injury-concerns

Borland, 24, was one of the League's top rookies last season.Ā HisĀ one tackle for every 4.5 snaps played was the best mark inĀ the NFL and his 128 takedownsĀ led the Niners while playingĀ in place of injured starter Patrick Willis, who also announced his retirement from the NFL this offseason. San FranciscoĀ confirmed Borland's decisionĀ and wished him the best moving forward.

"While unexpected, we certainly respect Chris' decision," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said. "From speaking with Chris, it was evident that he had put a great deal of thought into this decision. He was a consummate professional from day one and a very well respected member of our team and community. Chris is a determined young man that overcame long odds in his journey to the NFL and we are confident he will use the same approach to become very successful in his future endeavors. We will always consider him a 49er and wish him all the best."

Borland, a third-round pick out of Wisconsin who played one collegiate season with Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, said he has had two concussions in his life - one while playing soccer in eighth grade and another while playing football during his sophomore year of high school.

"I feel largely the same, as sharp as I've ever been," Borland told ESPN. "For me, it's wanting to be proactive. I'm concerned that if you wait 'til you have symptoms, it's too late. ... There are a lot of unknowns. I can't claim that X will happen. I just want to live a long, healthy life, and I don't want to have any neurological diseases or die younger than I would otherwise."
