Emerald City-based Visit Seattle is one of 12 crews competing in the 10th annual Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, and early Wednesday morning, the team aboard the marketing organization's 70-foot yacht donned Seahawks shirts, caps, and hoisted a Seahawks logo on its Yankee 1 sail through Australia's Sydney Harbor, furthering the reach of 12s worldwide during fan appreciation week.
The race, which started in London, England this past August and made port in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and Cape Town, South Africa before hitting Australia, is slated to visit Seattle from Qingdao, China in April 2016 before finishing back in London later in the new year. The *Visit Seattle *crew is comprised of 40 percent novice sailors led by fully-qualified skipper Huw Fernie.
"The 12s have never been more global," said Ralph Morton, Executive Director of the Seattle Sports Commission, a division of Visit Seattle. "We'll give Skipper Huw Fernie and his crew a loud Seahawks welcome when they arrive in Seattle next year."
The 11-month around-the-world race benefits Unicef and spans 40,000 nautical miles. On top of the Seahawks logo being visible, the *Visit Seattle *yacht also includes the city's skyline on the sail and hull.
