Wednesday Practice Report: Thomas Rawls, Marshawn Lynch Sit For Seahawks; Dez Bryant Limited For Dallas Cowboys

Practice participation for injured Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys players ahead of their Week 8 game.

The Seahawks are off the field following their first full workout of the week and with that comes the team's first practice report ahead of its Week 8 road game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Running backs Thomas Rawls (calf) and Marshawn Lynch (hamstring) did not take part in Wednesday's session. With the way Lynch ran in Seattle's 20-3 win over the San Francisco 49ers last Thursday, him sitting out appears to be the rest day we've grown accustomed to seeing early in the work week. Rawls, though, was hurt in the Seahawks' win last week and Carroll said the rookie might be slow to start the practice week but still has a chance to be ready to go by the end of the week. For depth at the spot, the team added fourth-year pro Bryce Brown to the active roster on Monday.

Center Patrick Lewis, who started for Seattle in Week 6 but missed last week's win with an ankle injury, was a limited participant on Wednesday. Drew Nowak, who won the starting center job out of training camp, went with the first unit against the Niners. Carroll said he expects Lewis to practice in full on Thursday, but wasn't ready to anoint a starter for Sunday's game at Dallas.

"We'll just let them battle for the week," Carroll said of Lewis and Nowak. "We'll see what happens there."

Defensive tackles Jordan Hill (quadriceps) and Demarcus Dobbs (shoulder), as well as linebacker Nick Moody (ankle) and fullback Derrick Coleman (concussion) were all limited participants on Wednesday after missing last week's game at San Francisco. Carroll said the group has a chance to play this Sunday against the Cowboys.

"We'll have to see how those guys all do, I don't know," Carroll said. "We expect those guys to be ready to play, though. We're going to have a really full roster to choose from this time around. That's pretty exciting at midpoint to be able to say that. It hasn't been like that in the last couple weeks, but it's just turning right now, so it should be a really competitive week at practice."

For the Cowboys, wide receiver Dez Bryant was listed as limited after taking part in his first practice since fracturing his foot in the team's regular-season opener. On a conference call with the Seattle-area media earlier Wednesday, Dallas head coach Jason Garrett shared his take on Bryant's current status, but wasn't ready to comment on his availability for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.

"We'll see how he handles the work and see how his foot feels as the day goes on and when he wakes up tomorrow morning and kind of make our determination as to what we want to do tomorrow," Garrett said. "So it's a day-by-day process for him, but it was good to see him out there."

Also of note for the Cowboys, starting running back Joseph Randle was held from Wednesday's work with a back injury he suffered in his team's Week 7 loss to the New York Giants. The setback pushed backup Darren McFadden into a heavier workload and the eighth-year pro responded, putting up 152 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries (5.2-yard average).

"Joe Randle had the first couple carries of the game and ran the ball well, but he got hurt," Garrett said of the Cowboys' run game against the Giants. "So Darren got a chance to play and we kept giving him chances and he kept taking advantage of them. Ran the ball a lot of different ways - inside, off tackle, outside, he protected on third downs and did a good job there. He's a good football player, and again, took advantage of a big opportunity. Back to work this week with him and some of the other guys that we have behind him, and hopefully we can continue to run the football like we did."

Which running back will start against Seattle remains to be seen. Behind Randle and McFadden, the Cowboys also have former Seahawks Christine Michael and Rod Smith on their roster.
