Being a part of the Sky Valley Youth Coalition has taught me what community involvement looks and FEELS like. It feels good to give and to help.

I am inspired by the director of the Sky Valley Youth Coalition, Ruth Shapovalov, because she had a vision and she made it happen. She was successful in creating a program and a place where teens can come and be safe and help their community. Not only that, but she was successful in finding a way to help combat child hunger. There is so much to admire about Ruth Shapovalov.

Kaiden (15)
I wouldn't have been as successful in my school work or as happy in my home life without my involvement with the coalition. This will impact my future forever.

Taylor (14)
Mrs. Jefferies inspires me because when there is a lot going on she knows how to deal with it and not make someone else do it.

Kohlton (17)
I enjoy trying to change our community as a teen leader.

Kaylee (17)
My favorite thing about the greater Seattle area is the fact that many people in the area come together to help anyone in need, as well as the amazing views we have from anywhere we stand.

I enjoy every part of SVYC. I enjoy every second of every day, especially when we're working (packing meal packs, working on our garden, planning and setting up for events, etc.) And that's mostly because of the volunteers and teens that I work along side, they're the greatest group of people I know.

Cheryn (16)
Everything happens for a reason, even if you don't understand, so don't ever give up. Also be yourself and don't let anyone tear you down.

Kristin (16)
I enjoy Ruth the most because she is so amazing. I also enjoy how many friends and relationships I have made. Here, I am happy and it's my second family. It's a safe place to go for me. I enjoy being able to work with everyone and being more a part of the community more.

Michael (15)
Don't do drugs just give hugs.

Dalylah (14)
I love the support and respect that everyone gives eachother.

Alex (14)
SVYC will impact my future in the best way possible because it is a fun place to be.

Arianna (16)
I see my time with the Sky Valley Youth Coalition making an impact on my future because Ruth recommends colleges and takes us to visit them.

Noah (14)
I like hanging out working in the garden and helping move stuff.

Chloe (13)
I see my time at Sky Valley Youth Coalition making an impact in my life by helping me through things that I can't talk about to my family about.

Cheyan (17)
The Sky Valley Youth Coalition has made an impact on my life for how much responsibility it has taught me and how far the little things you do in life can go so far. For example, when we do a community service project there is so much good that happens after. It's like when a pebble hits water; the ripples are made by the rock and all the ripples represent all the good things made by one small service project. All in all the Sky Valley Youth Coalition has taught me to respect others and why responsibility is so important as well as the reason we should always do the little things because they can turn into big ones.

Katrina (14)
At SVYC people actually sit and listen when you are talking about a serious topic.

James (12)
I like Sky Valley Youth Coalitions programs because they teach me and are nice about it.

Chandler (15)
Ruth inspires me because she has gone through so much to keep this group together and she's so strong. A lot of the kids wouldn't be here if she hadn't started this group.

Sarah (13)
Always be yourself and never change yourself for other people. Do what you love and don't let other people tell you what you can and can't do.
