Hired as a defensive assistant/linebackers coach by the Seahawks on February 22, 2024, Bynes officially enters his first season as an NFL coach.
Bynes retired from his NFL playing career in December 2023 after beginning his career as an undrafted rookie in 2011 and played from 2011-2022, spending six seasons with the Ravens in three separate stints: 2011-13, 2019, 2021-22. He also played for Detroit (2014-16), Arizona (2017-18), and Cincinnati (2020). Bynes finished his career with 138 games played, including 82 starts, and was a member of the Ravens' Super Bowl XLVII winning team.
Playing in 14 games (12 starts) in 2021, Bynes registered 76 tackles (third most on the team), a career-high six tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and four quarterback hits for the NFL's No. 1 rushing defense (84.5 ypg).
In 2020, he started all 16 games for the first time in his career with Cincinnati and tallied a career-high 99 tackles with five tackles for loss and 1.0 sack.
In 2019, he totaled 45 tackles, 1.0 sack, two interceptions and four passes defensed, helping Baltimore's defense rank No. 3 in points (17.6) and No. 4 in yards allowed (300.6).
Bynes attended Auburn and appeared in 43 career games with the Tigers, recording 238 tackles (127 solo), seven interceptions, 19 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He led the team in tackles in both 2009 and 2010 and started 35 consecutive games dating back to his sophomore year. Totaling 73 tackles, three interceptions, five passes defensed and one forced fumble, he helped lead Auburn to a National Championship as a senior in 2010.
Bynes has three children, Josh Jr., Jase, and Jordy.
