February 11, 2025, Michael Byrne was hired by the Seahawks as an offensive assistant. Byrne's coaching experience includes coaching at all three NCAA divisions along with time at the high school level.
Most recently, Byrne spent the 2024 season with Klint Kubiak and the Saints as a coaching assistant. Prior to that, Byrne worked for Pro Football Focus as an analyst, and previously held the title of director of football analytics at Pacific Lutheran University in 2021, offensive assistant in 2020, and defensive assistant in 2019.
Byrne spent the 2017-18 seasons as the co-offensive coordinator at Vandegrift High School in Austin, Texas, helping Vandegrift make two trips to the state playoffs and winning the district title in 2018. Prior to Vandegrift, Byrne spent one season as the co-offensive coordinator at Rudder High School in Bryan, Texas in 2016.
Byrne worked for Texas A&M on two separate occasions; first as a football operations/senior offensive intern in 2010-11 and then graduate assistant/assistant running backs coach from 2013-15. The Aggies earned three bowl bids (Chick-Fil-A, Liberty, and Music City) while ranking fourth in the FBS in total offense in 2014, amassing 538.4 yards per game.
Between his A&M stops, he spent the 2012 season at West Texas A&M University as the program's running backs coach. He helped guide the Buffaloes to the Lone Star Conference Championship and a spot in the NCAA Division II Tournament semifinals.
Byrne earned a bachelor of arts in history from PLU in 2009 while earning a masters of science in sport management from Texas A&M in 2012. Byrne started his college career at FCS Iona College, earning MAAC Academic All-Conference honors before transferring to PLU to finish his playing career where he was a two-year starter, team captain, and All-Northwest Conference selection at quarterback in 2008.
