Klint Kubiak was hired as the Seahawks new offensive coordinator on January 26 and had his introductory press conference as the Seahawks new offensive coordinator on Tuesday. Kubiak spent last season with the New Orleans Saints as their offensive coordinator and had stops with the Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, San Francisco 49ers. Here are four things to know about Kubiak.

Gary Kubiak is Klint's father

If the name "Kubiak" rings a bell, it might be because Klint's dad, Gary Kubiak coached in the NFL in a multitude of roles over his 26-year coaching career. Before Gary retired, he and Klint coached together at the Vikings, when Klint was the quarterbacks coach in 2019-2020. Klint was his father's successor for the offensive coordinator role in Minnesota. Klint said from his dad, he learned, " just overall how to act, how to treat people, how to carry yourself, everything that has nothing to do with football. That's what I've learned from him. And I definitely look forward to speaking to him after every game and getting a little tough love."

Bringing John Benton and Andrew Janocko along

When Kubiak was hired, changes were made to the offensive staff and Kubiak helped bring John Benton, offensive line coach and Andrew Janocko, quarterbacks coach, who both coached with Kubiak last season in New Orleans. Kubiak said two things he wanted in the staff were people who are "great teachers and guys that can motivate."

"If our identity is going to be a running football team, it starts with coach Benton and his approach. He just really impressed with his ability as a teacher, number one. He's an excellent teacher. The way he runs the room, holds his guys accountable. I've just seen the way he leads men and his schemes are excellent. Andrew Janocko, I've been with him at two different stops, another good teacher."

Kubiak will use a fullback

Kubiak made it clear that he will be using a fullback this upcoming season, but who that will be is still being figured out.

"Certainly love playing with a fullback like being 21 and 12 personnel," Kubiak said. "Again, that's going to come down to the strength of our players who we have on our roster and let's use the best 11 out there, let's get the five best eligible deployed out into the route scheme. So those are things we're working on right now, who that's going to be, but we've got to adapt as coaches to our best players on the roster."

Kubiak added that tight ends will be played in the fullback position and they don't know if they'll have to sign a player.

"I'm excited about the guys we do have on the roster, we will play tight ends in the fullback position for sure, but that's a process right now."

Seattle was an appealing job

Last season, Kubiak was the offensive coordinator for the Saints where he ran an offense that had success early on before injuries saw players be sidelined. Kubiak said the foundation of players Seattle has is "dang good".

"Geno Smith, DK Metcalf, Jaxon (Smith-Njigba), Charles Cross, the list goes on. There are a lot of really dang good football players on this roster that I'd love to coach. I want to be a part of helping their careers and helping them so we can win as a team. I think the personnel, the coaching staff here, John Schneider, the reputation the Seattle Seahawks have as a first-class organization. That's just common knowledge around the NFL."

Kubiak added that coaching with Mike Macdonald was a plus too.

"Number one was having a chance to coach with Mike (Macdonald). To be on a team that's coached with a dang good defense because you know how powerful that is. We want to be able to contribute to that and play complementary football with them."
