2022 Walter Payton Man of the Year Nominee
Every year, each NFL team announces their nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award. And in 2022, the Los Angeles Rams named Tremayne Anchrum Jr. their nominee. While he did not go on to win the award, Anchrum Jr. made an impact on the community around him in a big way. In his rookie season, he started volunteering at a Boys and Girls Club in East Los Angeles working with the youth four to five times a week for a few hours.
"I love ball, it's a big part of who I am," Anchrum Jr. said. "But it's not all of who I am. I'm definitely someone who's in touch with spirituality, the community, making sure that I'm being a good person and helping people."
When asked about community work, Anchrum Jr. said, "I will have to see how the city is here, to figure out what best will help the area. Once I learn the area I will definitely be [figuring out ways to help]."
Related to USC Basketball Legend
Anchrum Jr. had some connection to Los Angeles before he was even drafted to the Rams in 2020. His dad played basketball at the University of Southern California, and led the Pac-10 in rebounding as a sophomore and three-point shooting as a junior.
Big Movie Guy
Anchrum Jr. prefers to watch movies over TV series and his favorite movies are any Marvel movies, and his favorite Marvel movie is "Guardians of the Galaxy".
"First one I've seen in theaters was X-Men Two," Anchrum Jr. told the Los Angeles Rams. "I was super excited. I was really geeking out. I remember I brought my Wolverine shirt. Anytime I see a new Marvel movie or superhero movie [it] brings me back to when I was a kid."
Winning Material
Anchrum Jr. played college football at Clemson University from 2016-19 and was a two-time ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week honoree and two-time all-conference selection. In his final two years at Clemson, the team reached the College Football Playoff National Championship, losing to LSU in 2019 and defeating Alabama in 2018 to win the National title and cap off a perfect undefeated season. And in the 2021 season, while with the Rams, the team played in Super Bowl LVI beating the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20. Although, Anchrum Jr. did not play because he was on injured reserve.
Lumen Field Atmosphere
Being in the same division, Anchurm Jr. made a few trips to Lumen Field and experienced what a Seattle game day was like, except as an opponent.
"The 12s are pretty cool. I love the environment, the atmosphere you guys create. When you're the opposing team and coming here, you're like 'Man I have to deal with the players' but then you're like 'Man that crowd is a real factor.' They are literally another player on the field. Being able to come here and play for that, I feel honored," Anchrum Jr. said.
The Seahawks signed offensive lineman Tremayne Anchrum Jr. who was drafted in the seventh round (250th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Clemson. Check out some of the best photos of Anchrum throughout the years.
