Charles Cross Isn't Complacent And Is Off To A Promising Year 3

Third-year left tackle Charles Cross is “doing a tremendous job” through two games and wants to continue to grow week to week.

Through two games, offensive tackle Charles Cross has looked like he's taken a leap and has played great, earning himself an overall 94.8 grade in Week 1, and in 75 pass blocking snaps hasn't allowed a single has not allowed a single sack, hurry, pressure or quarterback hit through two games. He has the highest offensive grade of any tackle in the NFL this season at 90.2, according to Pro Football Focus, and playing 137 snaps, he hasn't committed a penalty.

With all of that, Cross would tell you that he feels like his entire game has grown overall, but he wants to "get better in the run game and pass game" and "bring guys along with me."

The "guys" he's referring to is the rest of the offensive line who as a unit has had their struggles through two games. The entire unit is still learning, and players like Connor Williams who are coming off injury and playing in a scheme that he's only been a part of since August.

"Connor's (Williams) done a great job," Cross said. "Just coming in and learning the offense and getting us in the right positions to be successful. So, I feel like he's done a tremendous job coming in and playing."

To keep keeping growing and learning in the way that he wants to, Cross has been taking any notes from Williams that he can.

"He's been on a couple different teams, so I'm just trying to learn from him. See what he knows and see how I can use that to help to help me," Cross said.

On Cross' play, head coach Mike Macdonald said, "It's a continuation of what we've seen in camp. I thought Charles (Cross) has played two really good games, thought he played really well this past game. He's a guy we're going to be leaning on moving forward. He's doing a tremendous job."

While Cross has been playing so well, he's not letting the success he's had through two games be just that.

"I feel like I've got to get better," he said. "I'm not complacent where I'm at, I just want to continue to grow and get better from week to week."

Cross said that the success he's seeing early on this season has been a combination of his mindset and focusing in on specific skills.

"Just going from the offseason and trusting my training from there and putting it to now, to come in each week. Being prepared, being ready to play, and just trying to do that consistently."

And even through a little over a month of practicing and playing with Cross, Williams knows that Cross has a high ceiling for what he can accomplish. "The sky's the limit for him," Williams said, "He brings the energy every day, and twice on Sundays, so I think he's a great player."

The Seahawks held a practice on Wednesday afternoon at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center to prepare for the upcoming Week 3 matchup vs. the Miami Dolphins.
