The Seahawks secondary looked a bit different on Sunday in Atlanta vs. the Falcons, with three starters from the secondary out with injury – cornerbacks Tre Brown and Riq Woolen both out with ankle injuries and safety Rayshawn Jenkins on injured reserve with a hand injury.

Safety Coby Bryant and cornerbacks Josh Jobe and rookie Nehemiah Pritchett made their first starts and were able to hold their own on Sunday.

"Yeah, no flinch," head coach Mike Macdonald said. "Like I said, you're excited to see those guys go perform. And they did. I thought they played a great game. They'll learn from it and keep growing."

In Sunday's matchup, the Seahawks defense didn't allow a pass more than 20 yards and in the second half held Bijan Robinson to just 23 rushing yards.

On the defense Macdonald said, "In the pass game, we played a complimentary game rushing the pass, and guys made their opportunities when the ball came their way. It was great to see."

Bryant had a solid outing, coming up with 11 combined tackles, an interception and a pass defensed.

Earlier in the season, head coach Mike Macdonald named Bryant one of the week-to-week captains, after complementing the way that Bryant had been practicing and "doing the right things over and over again."

And it seemed to have paid off as Bryant made his first career interception, after having a couple get called back during his rookie year because of penalties.

"It felt great," Bryant said on his game. "Of course, all glory to God is first, but just when my number was called, I just wanted to be ready. So that's the biggest thing."

This was Jobe's fourth NFL-career start and finished the day with six combined tackles and two passes defensed. Safety Julian Love said this week Jobe was taking the initiative to meet with Love so they could be on the same page.

"All week they were chipping away," Love said. "They were doing the extra stuff. They were on the field extra. They were just locked in. Jobe was thrown into a role. He was just asking for more meeting time, asking to meet with me separately just so we could go over stuff so we could click and they played great. And that's what we need. That's what great teams need. You need the guys who are called upon to step up and not drop below a standard that we're trying to set. And so I mean just a great all hands on deck game for us."

Macdonald added, "Shout out to John [Schneider] and his staff for picking [Josh Jobe] up. He's been practicing his tail off. Picks everything up really quick. He's a smart guy. Long, tall, fast corner. Knows the defense. Like I said, he's practiced so well throughout the week."

Love was also lending a helping hand to Bryant this week as well.

"Each time he takes the field, he takes another step," Love said on Bryant. "It is tough sometimes. I know I did it going from corner primarily to safety, but as you can see, he's just catching his stride. When Rayshawn [Jenkins] went down, I was an advocate for getting Coby on the field because he's a playmaker. The guy is always around the ball. It was evident his rookie year when he was at nickel. He just gets the ball and so we need that right now. We were trying to create sparks and so he probably had 10, 11 tackles and a pick first game starting and so man, he deserves all the credit. He's worked for this."

Bryant said having a teammate like Love has made a difference.

"It's been a blessing having Julian [Love] all week," Bryant said. "He's been with me, helping me out and just the rest of the guys encouraging me, believing in me, and we just went out there and executed."

And on Bryant's performance, Macdonald said he wasn't surprised with what he saw on Sunday. "Again, this guy just keeps playing at a high level. It's a slow form. He just sees how plays progress. He just seems like he's in the right spot all the time on these overthrows and patrolling the deep area of the field. In the run game and support and stuff like that, we'll see what we want to clean up, but this guy can affect the ball like we've been talking about. It's a unique trait for sure."
