On Thursday, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence signed a multi-year deal and the Seahawks now add a veteran, who over his career has 61.5 sacks, 97 tackles for loss and 21 forced fumbles.
Lawrence's career spans 11 years and he has played with the Dallas Cowboys for all 11 of those years and will now be playing for a new team for the first time.
"It's definitely surreal," Lawrence said. "I woke up this morning like 'Holy crap I'm really in Seattle.' But I still look at it as a blessing. Opportunities don't last forever and sometimes you need people to write you off in order for you to know how good you are."
In his 11 seasons, Lawrence, also known as "Tank," has four Pro Bowls to his name and was NFL Top 100 in 2018, 2019 and more recently 2023 and says he has more to give.
"I also have a lot more in the tank and don't need to stop now."
Lawrence will be playing for a new team but will be reconnected with Aden Durde, who was the Cowboys' defensive line coach in 2021-2023 and factored into Lawrence's signing with Seattle.
"Just being able to play under him for a couple of years and see his coaching staff, it was huge in my decision making. Once the opportunity came across the table, I had to take it."
He added that "it's refreshing," to play somewhere new but excited to play with this defense and scheme.
"I'm familiar with the defense and the scheme, so just coming here and playing my style of football the right way."
And while Lawrence played just four games last season because of a foot injury, he feels ready to go now.
"I basically had a full season to heal. I'm fully healed now and ready to attack this season."
Lawrence will bring 11 years' worth of experience and a proven playmaking ability to Seattle's defense.
"This is the perfect opportunity," he said. "I have a coach, I trust this system and I'm ready to play ball."
The Seahawks signed 4x Pro-Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence to a multi-year deal on March 13, 2025. In 11 seasons in Dallas, Lawrence had 61.5 sacks and 62 tackles for loss. Check out the best photos of Lawrence throughout his football career.
