Geno Smith started the season hot, and that stretch of solid play continued on Sunday vs. the Saints. The Seahawks quarterback completed 16 of 25 pass attempts, good for 268 yards, three touchdowns, and a passer rating of 139.7, earning him a nomination for FedEx Air Player of the Week for the second time in as many weeks. In addition to being recognized for his standout play, the award also has a charity component. FedEx, in partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), will make a $2,000 donation in the name of the winning quarterback each week to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country.
Smith was previously nominated for the award for his Week 4 performance vs. the Lions, where he completed 23 of 30 passes for 320 yards and two touchdowns, also adding a rushing touchdown.
It has been a remarkable start to the season for the veteran QB no matter which metric you go by. Smith currently leads the NFL with a 113.2 passer rating, and is Top 10 in several passing categories, including:
- 75.2% completion rate (1st NFL)
- 118 passes completed (10th NFL)
- 9 passing touchdowns (T-7th NFL)
- 8.3 yards per pass attempt (T-3rd NFL)
Vote early and often for Geno to help him take home the honor while also contributing to a good cause.
