As has been the case for many experiences for him this season, head coach Mike Macdonald will have another "first" when he wears Air Force Ones for the first time vs. the Jets. Now, the kind of shoes he's wearing isn't a big deal, but it's rather what will be on the shoes that is important. The shoes he will be wearing are in support of the RYR-1 Foundation through the NFL's My Cause My Cleats initiative.
"First of all the My Cause My Cleats initiative I think is just an awesome thing through the league," Macdonald said. "It gives us an opportunity to support charities and people and loved ones and causes that need attention frankly and need support. And I'm proud to represent the RYR-1 Foundation."
As is with most players and coaches, they support cause that either affect them or someone they are close to.
"They do a lot of great work with a lot of rare diseases," Macdonald said on the RYR-1 Foundation. "My nephew, my buddy has one of those, a form of muscular dystrophy. He's a pretty rad guy."
The initiative gives players, and coaches alike, people with platforms, to use them to shine a light on something important to them.
"Man, what a blessing that we have a platform that we can affect people positively and it's the whole reason why we're here; is we want to affect our city and our state and all of our fans and everybody really across the world. That's the whole, that's why we do it. It's why you want to win games, you want to bring people together because we have this awesome platform and people can take advantage of it. That's a pretty awesome thing. We have great people in the building to support all these initiatives and stuff and all of our causes that our players support and they feel passionate about and I just think it's just awesome."
Macdonald added the chance to support these initiatives is a "really cool opportunity."
"There's a lot of people out there that need our support and I know a lot of our players are behind this initiative…So I don't think I've ever worn Air Force before, but Sunday will be the first time," Macdonald said.
Coaches, players and staff across the league will wear customized cleats in honor of causes that are important to them as part of 'My Cause My Cleats'. Check out the custom cleats that Seahawks players and staff will wear for this year's 'My Cause My Cleats' league-wide initiative.
