Josh Jobe Provides 'Lone Bright Spot' With Interception In Seahawks' Week 8 Loss To Bills

Cornerback Josh Jobe, starting for the second week in a row, recorded his first career interception in Sunday’s loss to the Bills, also becoming the first player to intercept Josh Allen this season.

A week ago, Josh Jobe made his Seahawks debut, starting against the Falcons after being elevated from the practice squad due to injures at cornerback.

Jobe played well in that Week 7 win, getting another chance on Sunday, once again being elevated from the practice squad and playing a significant role as an outside cornerback when the Seahawks were in nickel defense.

And while there wasn't a ton to like about the Seahawks' Week 8 performance against the Bills, a mistake-filled 31-10 loss at Lumen Field, Jobe did provide one of the few highlights for Seattle, intercepting Bills quarterback Josh Allen in the second quarter and returning the ball 33 yards to the Buffalo 7-yard line.

On a day when very little went right for the Seahawks, the offense failed to covert that turnover into points, but it was still a nice moment for Jobe, who recorded the first interception of his three-year career.

"It was a lone bright spot in the game," Macdonald said. "It felt like we had a chance to really turn the momentum there, and Josh had a great technique on that play, and then when he had the opportunity, he took advantage of it. So that was great at the time, it felt like we had a chance to get the thing rolling."

Jobe, who went undrafted out of Alabama in 2022, spent the last two seasons with the Eagles, then signed with Seattle's practice squad before the start of the season, in part for a chance to play for Seahawks defensive backs coach/passing game coordinator Karl Scott, who was the defensive backs coach at Alabama for Jobe's first three seasons there.

And after making a good impression on coaches in practice, Jobe has gotten his chance the past two weeks, and made the most of that opportunity.

"That's amazing," cornerback Riq Woolen said of Jobe's play. "Josh is a hard worker and just talking to him, you know he's hungry and always ready to play. So to see him make a play like that, and to see him continue to embrace his role and continue to make plays is amazing… I'm happy for Josh, he's a great player and a great person, and I'm ready to see him continue to make plays."

Added safety Coby Bryant, "He had a great week of practice. He made a ton of plays. We expected that from him. He stepped up, played big. I'm extremely happy for him."

Making the turnover all the more impressive was the fact that, up until that second-quarter third-down pass, Allen had not thrown an interception, giving him a streak of 301 pass attempts, dating back to last season, without an interception. Interestingly enough, Jobe's interception marked the third consecutive season in which the Seahawks defense has ended a long interception-free streak for an opposing quarterback.

Back in 2022 when the Seahawks played the Buccaneers in Munich, Tom Brady needed just three more pass attempts without an interception to break Aaron Rodgers' record of 402 consecutive passes without a pick, but Cody Barton ended the streak just short of the record with an interception. Last season, Detroit's Jared Goff was approaching that same record, with his streak reaching 383 attempts without an interception before Tre Brown intercepted him and returned it 40 yards for a score.
